Every day starts the same. I roll over and pull out my cell phone. My phone mail always disappoints. The mails are there – more and more, every day.

I jump out of bed and turn on the computer. My eyes scan as the latest orders come in.

“Clarence, we need a new server setup. Clarence, why is the backend not working? Clarence, you need to coordinate more with the Indians. Clarence…”

Life working for Darren was tough. However, the worst thing was that I knew I just wasn’t good enough. If I was good enough, why did the work keep piling up?

“Clarence, there is a problem with the layout, get to it.”

Another request, and it hasn’t been even 5 minutes! Dammit – I guess I just won’t brush today. No time, gotta get to work. Darren is making big changes, and he needs me to keep up. The entire team in India depends on me finishing this.

“Clarence, you gotta pick up the pace, time’s running out.”

My mind has been so hazy these last few days – I don’t know if it is the work; I think it might be the sleep thing. I heard somewhere that the human mind sleeps in cycles of 3 hours – maybe I should try sleeping one cycle instead of one and a half – I won’t be as cloudy, and I can do what Darren wants me to do. He is a man with vision

“I see you’ve added an extra AJAX widget on the right site. I didn’t ask for it, you should be spending your time doing exactly what I tell you.”

bu.. bu, he asked me fo.. wait, no, stop, stop thinking – just keep working – no time to full sentence good grammar. I can’t let him down. He is a man with a vision. He is going to make the world a better place. This is going to make life better for everyone across the world. That’s why I’m doing this, even on a Saturday.

“OK, it turns out that the WorldOne people aren’t really going for it. Turns out there already are a couple of systems to book reservations for Hostels. I want you to trash everything and work on some WordPress themes.”

Oh boy – I haven’t done that for a while! I’d better get out some coffee – I’m way behind!

What if there is no human need that can’t be solved with the industries we have already?

It turns out that the ACCJ New Year’s Party and a party for my friend Tyler’s i-Japan magazine will be happening on the same day – 6-8 and 7-9. Ugh.

I’ll probably hang out at the ACCJ party and try to get to the i-Japan launch party once it is done. (I can’t afford skipping the ACCJ party, that’s my best hope of getting a new contact or two).
