Why I Never Answer my Uncle’s “Religious Emails”

June 29, 2009

I got this email today.

American shoe company ALDO has launched its new range of shoes in USA named it FATIMA for Ladies n ABDULLAH for Men’s . names r written on the sole n inside the shoe. Protest ALDO grp……fwrd 2 all Muslims………..do it b4 Allah asks u wht did u do 4 ur religion….this is a confirmed news plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz do nt doubt its authenticity ALLAH SWT SAYS: ‘If you deny me in front of your friends, I shall deny you on the day of Judgement . 93% of people wont pass this on…. Will you be one of them ???

I don’t deal with multi-coloured emails, and I don’t get religious advice from people who can’t spell. Even if he had done so properly, I’m actually more offended by people who name their children “Muhammad” and then raise them poorly because they think it will magically make them “good”. Besides, having your name on a shoe is an honour in the US. Ever hear of Air Jordans?

I know this uncle will never actually get a board in hand and protest anyway. It would be too much work. It’s much easier to pass around an email, “symbolically color” the word “Allah” in green, and then complain when your wayward descendants are wearing the “wrong brand”.

Seems like another moron hoax. No record of this anywhere other than chain emails.

Why do our Pakinese have to get so aggressive or stuff like this? Something pisses them off and they go around rioting and burning their own crap down, or send call-to-arms emails like this.

Seems like it never strikes them to breathe a bit and write a civilized email if they are offended. Designers have used Qur’anic script on women’s underwear in modeling shows and stopped when people complained civiliy. I hate emails like this, only legitimize perceptions that we’re a bunch of ADD twitchy reactive reactionary ignorant fools.

I had written an additional part to the article, but lost it when my monitor started going nutty. I looked up the source and there appears to be another company called Naturalizer that made shoes called “Fatima”.

They aren’t available anymore. I didn’t find anything about “Abdullah” shoes. I’m not even going to bother writing my uncle to tell him. Why bother? The hidden message (ALLAH WILL PUNISH YOU IF YOU DON’T FORWARD THIS EMAIL) was probably what provoked him to forward it anyway.
